About Berlin

Berlin is not only Germany's capital with 3,393,933 inhabitants, but also Germany's biggest city. In total, Berlin has a total area of about 891 km and disposes of 3,800 inhabitants per kilometre.

Gate of Brandenburg
The monumental Brandenburg Gate can look back at an about 200-year-old history. Up to 1989 it was a symbol for the division of Berlin and Germany, today the Brandenburg Gate is a national symbol for the unity and therefore one of the most famous landmarks of Berlin.

Alexander's square
The world time clock on the Alexander's square was during the German Democratic Republic a popular meeting place.

Berlin cathedral
With his striking creation signs the Berlin cathedral is a must-seen for every church lover.

Checkpoint Charlie was the best known border crossing in Berlin apart from the Glienicker Bridge.

Kaiser Wilhelm Memorial Church
The best known landmark of Kurfürstendamm is the Kaiser Wilhelm Memorial church on the square Breitscheid. In the Second World War it was strongly damaged by a bomb attack in 1943.

Island of museums
The museum island is one of the most prominent museum complexes in Europe.
